Sadako's Phone Number

090-4444-4444

The story goes:
This number is known as "Sadako's Number" and when you dial it you are supposed to be able to hear some strange, creepy noise, like "bwooo."

They say that the person who calls this number will meet some kind of accident within a week.

The number will probably only work in Japan, but you can try calling it by using Japanese country code +81.
:D

Hi Saya,

I had heard such a story too, like how people scribbled phone numbers on the walls and there was this person who actually called and heard all these strange noises.

And oh, sorry that I sounded rude the other time, didn't meant to be that way :( I really love all the stories posted here, thanks for the translations :D
@syazafall: you wait and see. If I'm dead by next week, then it means YES.

@neu:yes dear. Don't use your house phone you might give your mother a heart attack.

@Luna: THAT WAS ONLY A JOKE dear. I already said so. Don't worry about it. For a moment I didn't know what you were talking about.I don't remember you being rude, sweetheart! And I appreciate your commnet very much.Thank you ;)
Nami said…
Woah! I'm definitaly going to try this later! >:3

But it probably won't work. It'll probably say that the number doesn't exist. D:

Luna~ Actually, I heard that there's a site where you put your phone number and you get a call at 3am. Or the site give you a number and when you call you hear noises, and at 3am you get a phone call from this number and you hear things that may really shock you. Something like that, I can't really remember. >_<

Saya~ Ehhh?! You tried it already? Did you heard something? If yes, be careful dear!
Tia said…
if it is NOT a cell phone but a home number then i might be able to call it from the Mall since there is a worldwid free phone!! i live in Greece you see!
Tani said…
"This phone number does not exist..." T__T I wanted to hear Sadako scream at me.
Have you tried it, Saya san?
Matteo said…
It won't work here in New Zealand >.<

It's a shame because I like stories like this haha.
GVM said…
Agreed love the story but I fear my employers would not like seeing an international charge on the bill either. So if I did call seven days before the bill was deliver, something truly bad would happen.

I really want to try it, I'm just afraid of the bill ~ haha

I know this!

They tried it in USO Japan, (i was 10 years ago... god I still remembered) and they had some pretty bad noises, didnt let the audience hear though.

Apparently you won't die from callling it, since Takky from Takky and Tsubasa called it, and he is still alive...

I think there was a movie based on that legend, or am I wrong?

Hey Nami,

Are you serious? I mean there's a site like that? Wow. But maybe that's probably a generator or something like that I guess. Thanks for sharing anyway :)

To the people who say this doesn't work, to make international calls, you need to add a country code before a number. You can't make a phone call to another country without it.

81 is the country code for Japan.

Japanese phone number either start from 080 or 090, you need to take off the first zero, and add 81 at the beginning.

So Sadako's phone number is
090-4444-4444

This is what you should call if you live outside Japan:
81 90-4444-4444

Are you not updating because you're pretending to be dead? >:D For a moment I really thought that you had died in an accident.

Hi!How are you? It's my first time visiting your blog, and I think it's great, specially the "cryptic stories". I was wondering if I have your permission to translate them into Spanish ("The well" and "a ghost photograph"). I, of course, will give you the credit and put a link to your blog. The thing is that I just created my own blog and, well, some of friends of mine really like that kind of stories but they can't speak English...

So please, tell me what you think about it.I'm not going to do anything until I hear from you.

Take care!;)

Hi Saya-san

I dared one of my friends to dial the number at 3:00 AM at my house today. When she dialed we heard a
cracking noise. She peed her pants and we were all laughing but the cracking noise didnt stop until 10 minutes later. Do u really think
we're gonna hit rock bottom?
Unknown said…
Hello Saya~! ^-^
I actually tried this on my phone, but not with the +81, I did it with the 011-81-090-4444-4444, it was silent for like two minutes and then the operator said something about it not working. I don't remember. XD
Anonymous said…
+81-90-4444-4444 call!!!Its very creepy
Anonymous said…
If I remember correctly, this is from å short-movie made by the creator of Ju.On.... Very creepy! (Great blog, btw!)
ayakashi said…
I researched the number and apparently it's a decommissioned NTT test number; I think it's based in Okinawa but I forget. The ボーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー sound is just some form of dial tone.
ayakashi said…
Wait, no Okinawa is 098, 090 is just cell numbers, although NTT, being a cell company, would probably use the cell phone dialling code.

Oh and it wasn't a test number, it's a decommissioned CENTER number.

They have rubbish taste in phone numbers.

In reality, Sadako-san doesn't have as much superpowers as in the novel :) She can only see things through some objectives (like dices inside a bowl) and take photos via brain-effect-or-whatever-it-is-called-since-my-mind-is-a-long-forgotten-storage. But... still, I want to try this. But unfortunately I live in Vietnam, so it may happen that my house being destroyed by a mountain of bills...

Saya, you should probably delete some comments in this page... :(

But anyway, i actually don't believe in this praticular ritual, but generaly, ghostly phone calls are scary and is not impossible to happen! >_<

Hi
Anonymous said…
1.This number was once owned by IDO (currently KDDI) for data communication, and
at that time IDO (currently KDDI) was roaming with cellular and docomo movers,
and prepared a 090 number so that it could be used even during roaming. ,
When there is no data call, the call sound is popping, and it is cut off, so it is said that it
is eerie, and it is called "Sadako".

now that KDDI has been established,
data communication has changed to packets,
and thus it is no longer used due to number integration.
It is no longer available because it has been discontinued.
So to proof to u all, I called this phone number few times using Japan country code and all it says is 'INVALID NUMBER'
Anonymous said…
I called it today and when I did the number changed on the contacts and was named 30 days remain, run
